Tocal Homestead is set among magnificent fig trees and overlooks the Tocal lagoon, with the Paterson River beyond. Built in 1840 as a country retreat for Felix Wilson, the house is only one of the fascinating buildings on this site which illustrates the changes in the land use at Tocal since 1822. Today we will have a two hour guided tour of the heritage site, where you will be entertained with stories of the characters and activities at Tocal over the past 200 years. See the barn the Colonial Architect design, hear about a lad who went on to become Captain Thunderbolt and learn about a wealthy businessman’s vision to change the lives of destitute children. The tour involves a moderate amount of walking on level gravel and grass and you have an option of going upstairs to view the upper floor of the house. You will also be able to see the unique architecture of Tocal Agricultural College and enjoy an informative guided bus tour around the working enterprises on the Tocal farms. Lunch is included with the guided tour and is a traditional farmer’s baked lunch, with dessert and tea or coffee, served in the College Dining Hall. On our travels home, we will stop in at the Farmers Wife Distillery, where you can enjoy a coffee, cocktail, beer or try their signature Gin Range.
